Understanding the new County Council boundaries for Stone
The 2025 Staffordshire County Council elections bring with them a brand-new set of boundaries – and if you’re a resident of Stone, your division may have changed since the last time you voted.
Following a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, new lines have been drawn up to better reflect population changes and ensure each councillor represents roughly the same number of people. As a result, Stone is now split across three divisions: Stone Urban, Stone Rural North, and Stafford Trent Valley.
To help you make sense of where you fit in, here’s a breakdown of each division. We’ve also included maps to show how the new boundaries look.
Stone Urban

Stone Urban covers the heart of the town. This division now includes areas of Walton and Udall Grange that were previously included in the now deprecated Stone Rural division.
One major change for 2025 is that Aston Lodge and Little Stoke (north of the railway line) are no longer part of this division. They’ve moved into the Stafford Trent Valley area.
Stone Rural North

This is a newly defined division for 2025. It pulls together several of the villages and rural communities that sit just outside Stone, including:
- Oulton
- Moddershall
- Meaford
- Barlaston
- Yarnfield
- Swynnerton
- Tittensor
Previously, these areas were included in the old Stone Rural division. The Rural North boundary no longer includes parts of Walton or Udall Grange, which are now part of Stone Urban.
Stafford Trent Valley

While not typically associated with Stone, the Stafford Trent Valley division now includes a pocket of the town on the opposite side of the Little Stoke railway crossing.
This includes:
- Aston Lodge Estate
- Little Stoke
For residents here, it’s worth noting that you will be voting in a different division to most of the town, and the candidates standing will be different from those in Stone Urban or Stone Rural North.
Why the changes?
The new boundaries are designed to improve representation by ensuring each councillor is responsible for a similar number of constituents. As populations shift and new housing developments emerge, electoral maps are reviewed to keep things fair and balanced.
How many people live in each division?
To give you a sense of the size of each division, here are the latest figures for the number of registered voters (electorate) and number of properties in each of the areas covering Stone:
- Stone Urban
- Electorate: 12,260
- Properties: 7,752
- Stone Rural North
- Electorate: 12,015
- Properties: 6,811
- Stafford Trent Valley
- Electorate: 11,466
- Properties: 6,340
These figures were published by Staffordshire County Council in March 2025 and reflect the divisions as they stand ahead of the election on Thursday 1st May.
